She read history at London University, graduating in 1961. After an interesting year in the National Assistance Board as a visiting officer ‘assessing need’ she went to Bristol University and qualified as a teacher in 1963. For a brief time she taught RE examination classes in a Grammar School but most of her teaching has been within the church – Sunday School, Crusaders, Bible study groups- and then after gaining the London University Diploma in Theology in 1984 tutoring a Bishop’s certificate group in Salisbury diocese.
In 1962 Daphne married Roy who was then a surveyor. Life changed radically in 1976 when Roy was ordained. They have a daughter who is a veterinary surgeon and pathologist and a son who works as a business consultant in Singapore and Shanghai.
In 1997 Daphne became a Reader and worked alongside Roy in Welford on Avon parish. In 2005 when Roy retired they came to Ilminster.
